MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The snow making machines are going full blast at Afton Alps Ski Area.
They’re one of many ski areas opening for business this weekend. Afton Alps Marketing Manager Amy Reentz said they’ve made some significant upgrades since last year. After they were purchased by Vail Resorts, more than $10 million went into improvements in snow making capabilities, technology, renovating buildings and installing a new terrain park for freestyle skiing and snowboarding.
Afton Alps will open three runs at 3 p.m. Friday. Reentz said she expects six runs to be open Saturday and all runs to be open by next Saturday.
